Is it possible to apply for the PMP exam without being a PMI member?
You don’t need to be a PMI member to apply for PMP certification. But it is advisable to become a PMI member if you are planning to go for PMP certification.
How are PMP Exams Administered?
All PMP exams are administered by Computer-based testing (CBT) which is the standard method of administration for all PMI examinations. Paper-based testing (PBT) is also available but only in the following situations:
- Candidates who live at least 186.5 miles/300 km from a Prometric CBT site.
- Employers (Corporate Sponsors) who wish to administer a PMI examination to their employees. In this case, there is no restriction on distance; however only employees of the corporation may test at these events.
How much time does it take to prepare for the PMP certification exam?
The amount of time taken to prepare for the PMP certification exam will depend on PMP training, how much experience you have as a project manager, how familiar are you with PMI's terminology, which book you use to prepare etc. Generally it takes about four to eight weeks if you spend one to two hours per day before the exam.
What if I do not take the PMP Exam within the 1-year eligibility period?
For those, who are not able to take the exam within one year of the eligibility period, they will have to go through the entire application process again. Moreover, if you have paid for the exam and don’t take the exam within one year, the paid fee will be forfeited.
What is the revised criterion for passing the new examination?
Candidates must answer a minimum of 141 of the 175 questions correctly to pass the PMP examination. While attending the test, the candidate will have to take 200 questions out of which 25 questions will be in the beta stage and will not be counted for pass/fail determination.
How much experience do you need to apply for PMP Certification?
At the time of the application you should be having a
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 4,500 hours of PM experience
- 36 non-overlapping (unique) months of PM experience
- Above must be within 6 years prior to application
- 35 contact hours of PM education
If you hold a High School Diploma
- 7,500 hours of PM experience
- 72 non-overlapping (unique) months of PM experience
- Above must be within 8 years prior to application
- 35 contact hours of PM education through
What is the next step after obtaining PMP certification?
Once you get the PMP certification, you need to be consistent with Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) Program where you will earn 60 PDUs over 3 years (1 PDU = 1 hr).These PDUs can be earned by attending PM Training & Other Development Programs, Conducting PM related trainings, Managing projects (5 PDUs / Year), etc. AstroWix is the only GREP in the country providing myriad of opportunities for its alumnus
Do the PMP prep courses count toward the project management training requirements when applying to take the PMP exam?
The Project Management Institute (PMI) recognizes these PMP prep courses as quality professional project management training, and will consider it training when you apply. In fact, the courses were created in cooperation with the PMI and are aligned with "A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge" (PMBOK® Guide) - Fourth Edition", published by the Project Management Institute (PMI®), Inc., 2008. A transcript and certificate from PMI REP Skillsoft (REP #1008), is readily available on our learning portal and can be provided to the PMI. You can actually try a course for free and earn PDUs or project management training credit hours for your PMP application.
