As a part of the PM Insight Lecture Series, AstroWix organized an evening on Implementing Urban Development Projects on 6th November, 2009. At a time when India is witnessing many initiatives on Infrastructural development due to the upcoming common wealth games, this event helped the audience understand the significance of project management in implementing these project. The speakers of the event were senior officials with extensive experience of having implemented complex urban development projects. The keynote address was presented by Dr. P S Rana, Chairman, India Infrastructure & Urban Development Co. and Former Chairman and Managing Director, HUDCO who provided an insight into how urban development projects should be carried out in some of the most populated states in the country. His graphical representations of the states and the demonstration of the urban development was very informative and interesting. The main speaker for the event, Prof Dr. P.S.N Rao, Professor and Head, Department of Housing, School of Planning and Architecture, was instrumental in helping the audience recognize the crucial role of project management in planning and executing such mega projects. At the event, a case study was also presented by Vikas Arya, Director, National Networks O&M, MTS- India on the upcoming Common Wealth games in the country. The case study emphasized on the many reasons for the delays and cost over runs in implementing this mega project and elaborated on how Project Management can lend effective solutions for executing it to success.
